A mandarin, another mandarin, how
clever, a food source that you can
peel the wrapping off and eat,
and simply enjoy the juice
without packaging and hoopla
no straws, no words, just pull off tree and eat.

Custard Apple No4

oil on canvas / 8" x 8"
1 1/2" wrapped canvas frame

SOLD
There is something sculptural and warm and loving
about a Custard Apple
They look like Gods Little Sculptures that
he made on a lazy Saturday afternoon
when all was said and done.
With great joy and abandonment
the custard apple
so needs to be painted.

They are as splendid and friendly
as a big bunch of flowers

They change shape overnight ... literally.

Apple ... with a bite taken from it

SOLD

Apple ... with a bite taken from it
oil on canvas / 5 x 7" [deep frame]

The original apple: I posted a photo of the original apple because, this apple with the bite taken out of it is now about two weeks old when I took this photo. I stopped eating the apple, and decided to paint it mainly because it didn't taste like an apple. It tasted rubbery, and without flavor. This photo of the inside of the apple still so white, after days of sitting in the open air, proves to me that the apple has been tampered with either genetically, or with gas or some sort of preservative to sit on shelves in the big corporate supermarkets. Aaargh!

Three Figs on a Box in a Cardboard Box

Three Figs on a Box in a Cardboard Box
oil on canvas / 12 x 16" [deep frame]

This one started off as a painting of 3 figs. Simple enough, bit cliché but figs are figs, and deserve to be painted. Then I pulled out an old cardboard box, cut a few holes in the side, and shone a light in through the holes to create some nice shadows and lighting effects. If that didn't grab my attention enough, I was drawn to the old cardboard flap which I pushed in to hide some light, and before I knew what I was doing, I was painting Three Figs on a box, inside a cardboard box. One subject totally doesn't relate to the other, but it may just be where I am up to in my own life, that is ... "what you see is what you get".
